The international scientific conference “Bulgarians in the Northern Black Sea Region” will be held in Sofia on October 27 and 28, 2025 in the Institute of Ethnology and Folklore with Ethnographic Museum at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, Prof. Ganchev of the State University of Intellectual Technologies and Communications in Odessa has told BTA.

Because of the war in Ukraine, the conference will be held in Bulgaria, so that more scientists from Bulgaria, Ukraine, Moldova and other countries can participate. The forum will be a platform for interdisciplinary dialogue on the historical ties between the Northern Black Sea Region and Bulgaria.

The Northern Black Sea Region occupies a special place in the historical destiny of the Bulgarian people. It is in these spaces, encompassing the steppes between the Dniester and the Don, that the political and cultural unification of the proto-Bulgarian tribes was formed and the first state of Khan Kubrat – Great Bulgaria – emerged. In more recent times, the region became a center of significant Bulgarian immigrant communities, which arose as a result of migration processes in the 18th and 19th centuries.
