Prosecutor’s office announces it will take action against the persons sanctioned by USA

The prosecutor’s office announced it is going to take action regarding all persons sanctioned by the US.

The prosecutor’s office states that even before the designation under the Global Magnitsky sanctions program, judicial proceedings were initiative against Petar Haralampiev and Krasimir Tomov from the State Agency for Bulgarians Abroad, as well as against ormer deputy Economy Minister Alexander Manolev while Vassil Bojkov, who is in Dubai, is under investigation.

The announcement states that a probe is now being launched against former MP from the Movement for Rights and Freedoms Delyan Peevski and against Ilko Zhelyazkov, former Deputy Chief of the Bulgarian State Agency for Technical Operations who was appointed to the National Bureau for Control on Special Intelligence-Gathering Devices, Horizont channel’s Silvia Velikova reports

Last night the Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) announced it was sanctioning three Bulgarian individuals for their extensive roles in corruption in Bulgaria, as well as their networks encompassing 64 entities, later adding the names of another three Bulgarian citizens who are being sanctioned over corruption – former deputy Minister of Economy Alexander Manolev, the former head of the State Agency for Bulgarians Abroad Petar Haralampiev and the agency’s secretary Krasimir Tomov. Charges have been brought against Haralampiev and Tomov in Bulgaria over the alleged sale of Bulgarian passports.
