Fewer applications for voting abroad have been filed so far in comparison to the parliamentary elections in April. 37,000 of Bulgarians abroad have applied, while two months ago their total number was 80,000, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced, reporter Tonya Dimitrova informed.

568 stations will be opened by default and according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, their number will reach 800. The largest number of new polling stations is expected in the UK - the record number there was 58 in the elections in 2017 and now the number will reach 130.

In Turkey, the number of polling stations currently stands at 110.

The record number of 69 polling stations were opened in Germany in the elections in April and now the number will be 105, according to current data.

"Maybe, we would not be able to achieve the voter turnout of the elections in April even with doubled number of stations," Kalin Anastasov of the Elections Working Group at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said. According to him, a reason for this might be the holiday season.

As the CEC has not yet agreed on the supply of additional voting machines, there is a risk of machine voting not taking place abroad, the chairman of the working group Ivan Kondov said. The elections abroad will cost over 3.5 million euros.
