43% of Bulgarians have been exposed to the coronavirus, indicates a study by one of the biggest laboratory chains in the country.
“The study is not nationally representative,” Dr. Nedyalko Kalatchev said for the BNR. The tests are of randomly selected samples from people who have been to laboratories for various reasons at the end of May and the beginning of June.
Data show that a large portion of the people who were exposed to the virus during the first wave of coronavirus have a decent level of antibodies. Only 4% of the tests show a low level of antibodies, Dr. Kalatchev states. Data in Yambol show that 56-57% of the people have been exposed to the virus. Pazardzhik is top of the list with 62%.
In Sofia around one-third of the samples show the presence of antibodies.
The level of herd immunity in the country will become clear within one month.
“The Ministry of Health is launching a project for the creation of a database to collect information about the people who have recovered from Covid-19 and the level of herd immunity reached in this country. A call for tender has been issued for projects by software companies for the creation of such a database and for a server,” Minister of Health in the caretaker government Dr. Stoycho Katsarov said.
