On the basis of a signal and a media publication, the Specialized Prosecutor's Office is checking whether former caretaker Minister of Economy Kiril Petkov has committed a crime. The documents published by the Constitutional Court- Kiril Petkov’s declaration (from May 10) that he was only a Bulgarian citizen and a certificate from Canada that on August 20 he was no longer a Canadian national, will become part of the documents in this case.

When Kiril Petkov becomes a candidate for an MP for the November 14 elections, he will be immune from criminal prosecution. "However, Bulgaria's Prosecutor General may ask the Central Election Commission to strip Petkov off immunity," the Central Election Commission’s Deputy Chairman Dimitar Dimitrov said for Trud newspaper.
