Despite the pandemic and the decline in 2020 by 11 percent in trade between Bulgaria and the United States, in 2021 it has seen an increase by 25%. The United States has invested $ 2.5 billion in Bulgaria and created 30,000 jobs, US Ambassador to Sofia Herro Mustafa said at a business breakfast.

She stressed that in order for Bulgaria to attract foreign investment, the state must invest in good governance.

"The rule of law is a problem. Labour legislation is quite outdated. The regulatory environment has poor law enforcement, conditions for corruption are being created," the diplomat stressed.

Key to Bulgaria's future are investments in diversifying the energy mix and choosing Western solutions for co-operation in nuclear energy, Mustafa said.
