On January 13, we mark the Day of Bulgarian Cinema. The date was not chosen randomly. On January 13, 1915, the first Bulgarian feature film "Balgaran e Galant" was premiered in Sofia’s Modern Theatre. The film was directed by Vasil Gendov who also wrote the screenplay and played the lead alongside actress Mara Miyateva.
Gendov is an author of other works, including the first film dedicated to Vasil Levski - "The Rebellion of the Slaves" released in 1933.
Bulgaria has been marking the Day of Bulgarian cinema since 2005 at the initiative of the National Film Center.
