Albert Popov finishes 9th in the slalom in Beijing

Bulgarian alpine skier Albert Popov recorded the best ranking for Bulgaria at the Winter Olympics near the Chinese capital, after finishing 9th in the slalom at 1.06 seconds behind French champion Clement Noel.

With an excellent ride, the 24-year-old Bulgarian gave an eighth time in the second run of 1:45.15 minutes and kept his 9th place. Popov failed to improve Bulgaria's top sixth place in the Olympic slalom of Petar Popangelov of Lake Placid in 1980 and Sarajevo in 1984.
Kamen Zlatkov, who was 20th in the first round, started well in the second, but dropped out In the second half.
