Bulgaria’s Prosecutor General Ivan Geshev informed the country’s Minister of Foreign Affairs that the prosecution had gathered evidence for espionage by a citizen of the Russian Federation with diplomatic immunity.

Pre-trial proceedings have been instituted against the Russian citizen, because his activity is in conflict with the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations.

According to the Prosecutor's Office, the person in question is an advisor to the Russian Embassy in Bulgaria. He received information from an army reserve general who had participated in missions abroad. The general worked in the Bulgarian Ministry of Defense and had access to EU and NATO classified information.
