More than 60 portrait photographs of popular Bulgarian actors from the archive of the Bulgarian National Film Library (BNF), are shown at the Synthesis Gallery in Sofia. The selection is from the period 1956-1972, which was very fruitful for Bulgarian cinematography. The title of the exhibition is "Stars of Bulgarian Cinema".
Before the introduction and widespread use of digital technology in Bulgaria, the only evidence of the process of making Bulgarian films were the photographs of working moments, which are a valuable part of the BNF archive.
Portraits of the actors were the main focus of the film crew and on-set photographer during production, we learn from the exhibition organisers.
The show includes works by prominent photographers such as Lotte Michailova, Jana Karayordanova, Zheni Vulova and others. Visitors can see unique images of Apostol Karamitev, Ginka Stancheva, Georgi Kaloyanchev, Stefan Danailov, Nevena Kokanova and other well-loved Bulgarian actors.
