The Hemus highway, which is to link the cities of Sofia and Varna, is expected to be completed in 2027, while the section near Veliko Tarnovo will be ready in 2025. This is what Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Regional Development Grozdan Karadzhov said in Pleven.

The minister pointed out that there were "in-house" procedures related to the construction of the highway, which had not been done in the most precise way from a legal point of view. Checks are currently being carried out, after which payments to contractors will be made. There is enough money, the minister said.

The construction of the Hemus highway started back in 1974.
