Bulgaria has clearly stated its support for the inclusion of the Pan-European Corridor No 8 Sofia-Skopje-Durres in the scope of the proposed new European transport corridor "Western Balkans", as part of the proposed revision of the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T). This happened at a meeting of EU Ministers of Transport and ministers of the countries from the Western Balkan held in Lyon, France.

Bulgaria’s Deputy Minister of Transport and Communications Vladimir Varbanov emphasized the advantages of such inclusion such as promoting European integration in the Western Balkans, creating an intermodal connection between the Black Sea and the Adriatic Sea, placing the transport system in the region in line with European priorities for sustainability and development of railway transport, etc.
