‎On July 4th the Embassy of the Republic of Albania in Bulgaria organized in the University Botanical Garden in Sofia the first event dedicated to the tasting of Albanian wines in Bulgaria - an excellent opportunity to bring our two peoples together.‎

At the event, wineries from different parts of Albania were presented, whose wines are a mixture of indigenous grape varieties. The guests also tasted a wonderful Albanian rakiya (brandy).

Albania has many indigenous grape varieties as its vineyards cover more than 10,000 hectares. The Land of Eagles boasts a thousand-year-long wine tradition, making it one of the oldest wine-producing countries in Europe.‎

Albania can be divided into 4 wine regions, which are mainly determined by their altitude. Since 2000, the production of vineyards in the country has increased dramatically, as has the area of cultivated vineyards. ‎

There is potential both for import substitution in the wine sector in Albania and for increasing exports, it was pointed out at the event organized by the Albanian Embassy in Sofia - a truly wonderful opportunity to get to know the Albanian culture better.

The information was provided by the Embassy of the Republic of Albania in Bulgaria
