The Spanish troupe La Tuna is to visit the town of Plovdiv at the invitation of Plovdiv Mayor Zdravko Dimitrov. They are to give a free of charge concert tonight in the Ancient Theatre downtown Plovdiv. The concert will be preceded by a special march on the Main Street under the romantic sound of their guitars. The Spanish musicians visit Bulgaria for the third time. La Tuna Orchestra performs a repertoire entirely typical of the Madrid school. The troupe has a five-century tradition, dating back to the Alcala de Henares University in Madrid in the 15t century. The tradition originated with students known as sopa (or Sopa) or students of humble origin who used music to get a bowl of soup in inns or taverns.
