Caretaker Prime Minister Galab Donev confirmed to the ambassadors of the EU countries that Bulgaria's main priority remains the country's accession to Schengen and the euro zone. He voiced his expectations for progress in the coming months.
The Prime Minister, the diplomats and the European Commission representation in Sofia held a working meeting at the Boyana residence.
Speaking about the preparations for the introduction of the euro, Galab Donev pointed out that the caretaker cabinet is implementing the National Plan, which foresees the introduction of the European currency on 1 January 2024.
He also informed that a team of the European Commission will arrive in Bulgaria this month to confirm the degree of implementation of the Schengen acquis. According to the Prime Minister, Bulgaria had met the Schengen accession criteria as early as 2011.
