The Central European Initiative (CEI) reaffirmed the support of the countries taking part in the initiative for the enlargement of the EU.

This took place at a two-day meeting of CEI foreign ministers in Sofia, hosted by Bulgaria’s Foreign Minister Nikolay Milkov.

The main focus of the meeting was Russia’s war in Ukraine. Minister Milkov pointed to the desire of the countries of the initiative to work “in unison and coordination” for overcoming the consequences of the war and its effect on the entire region.

Bulgaria is handing over the rotating Presidency of the Central European Initiative to Moldova on 1 January next year. Being a candidate for membership of the EU, during its presidency Moldova will target its efforts at the European integration of the region, Moldova State Secretary Vladimir Cuc pointed out.
