Energy Minister: We will not supply Russian gas under the Botas gas agreement

"The contract between Bulgargaz and the Turkish company Botas is entirely for the reservation of gas terminal capacity and transmission network. We are not supplying Russian gas with it," the interim Minister of Energy Rosen Hristov assured. In his words, "We Continue the Change" and "Democratic Bulgaria" are criticizing the contract because it was signed without the intermediaries appointed during their rule. 

Hristov also said that the caretaker government is already working to renegotiate the terms of the Recovery and Resilience Plan in order to prevent the closure of coal plants.

"We Continue the Change" submitted on Tuesday a motion in Parliament to hear Energy Minister Rosen Hristov. The party expressed doubts that an attempt is being made to bring back gas supplies from Gazprom, this time via Turkey, on the grounds that "a contract that affects a strategic area of national security is being concluded in a non-transparent manner and for a period of 13 years".

State-owned Bulgarian and Turkish companies Bulgargaz and Botas have signed a long-term agreement that will grant access to the Turkish transmission system to transfer up to 1.5 billion cubic metres (bcm) per year of liquefied natural gas (LNG) to Bulgaria.
