More than 200 survakari, master mask-makers and folk dancers descended on Borisova Gradina Park in Sofia to present the festival Surva which is to be held in Pernik at the end of January, a festival going back to 1966.

The traditional masquerade games take place in and around Pernik around the New Year, old style, or 14 January. The Surva festival was included in the UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage List in 2015.
