The EU has not taken action connected with the sanctioning of Bulgarians by the US and the UK and cannot penalize these people for corruption. This is the answer given by the European Commission to a question by the BNR, Anguelina Piskova, BNR correspondent in Brussels reports.

The US imposed sanctions, under the Global Magnitsky Human Rights Accountability Act, on Vladislav Goranov, Rumen Ovcharov, Alexander Nikolov, Ivan Genov and Nikolay Malinov. There is no connection between the measures put in place by the US and the UK, and the EU sanctions regime, the European External Action Service says.

The Bulgarian prosecutor’s office stated that on 13 February, they would ask the security services and other institutions for all information they have about the new names of Bulgarian citizens on the Magnitsky list.
