Bulgaria still relies on Russia for the maintenance of Kozloduy nuclear power plant, caretaker Minister of Energy Rosen Hristov said at the informal meeting of Transport, Telecommunications and Energy Ministers in Stockholm. In Minister Hristov’s words, possible sanctions against the Russian nuclear power industry would endanger the operation of the Bulgarian NPP.

In Stockholm, Rosen Hristov met with his Ukrainian counterpart Herman Halushchenko. The two discussed the posibility for cooperation in the nuclear energy field, including the use of Russian equipment for the Belene NPP in Ukraine. According to Minister Hristov, an analysis of the regional gas market will show where investments in infrastructure are needed, in order to achieve maximum returns. In this regard, Rosen Hristov invited Ukraine to join the initiative to study the gas market in South-Eastern and Central Europe. Ukraine’s Energy Minister backed the idea and noted that this was a very important issue for Ukraine.
