The Bulgarian institutions should not allow an extension of the decision adopted by the Council of the EU in May 2022 on the introduction of a temporary regime of free trade with Ukraine, former Minister of Agriculture, Mehmed Dikme, told the BNR.
With this decision, all tariffs and restrictions on the import of agricultural goods from Ukraine were abolished for a period of one year. The former minister recalled that the decision was also supported by the representatives of Bulgaria in the European Parliament. He called on the farmers to stop the protests now and continue after the elections and added the Minister of Agriculture Yavor Gechev should not head the protests but go to Brussels and demand compensations adequate to the damages suffered by the Bulgarian farmers.
