“The bill which envisages control of the prosecutor general is not about accountability. It has one purpose and one purpose only – to allow for the prosecutor’s office to be taken under control and to be used for reformatting political and economic power,” Prosecutor General Ivan Geshev said in an interview with the BNR, and added that if the texts are endorsed he will refer the matter to the Constitutional Court. However, he said that before the court ruling, he expects criminal proceedings to be instituted against him.
As to the photographs showing wads of money and bars of gold in the bedroom of former PM Boyko Borissov, Ivan Geshev stated that as far as he knows there are two ongoing investigations which are nearing their completion. With regard to the house allegedly owned by Borissov in Barcelona, he stated that all actions provided for by the law are being taken.
Ivan Geshev stated he would not be entering politics because “to be a Bulgarian politician you have to look people in the eye and lie to them”.
