Bulgaria to receive EUR 9.77 million in compensation from the EU due to the import of Ukrainian grain

The EU is expected to earmark a total of EUR 100 million for farmers in countries affected by imports of Ukrainian grain and food. Bulgaria is expected to receive EUR 9.77 million, a source from the European Commission told the BNR. 

The remaining funds will be distributed among Poland, Hungary, Romania and Slovakia. Bulgaria received EUR 16.75 million under the first aid package. Meanwhile, in Parliament, Bulgaria’s caretaker Minister of Agriculture, Food and Forestly Yavor Gechev said that Bulgaria has more than EUR 3 billion worth of produce, because of the imports of agricultural products from Ukraine. In his words, half of the Ukrainian sunflower that enterted the EU is in Bulgaria.
