Bulgaria will join European instrument for interest-free loans for Ukraine

The Bulgarian government has approved a draft agreement on financial contribution to an interest subsidy granted under the European Commission's "Macro-Financial Assistance+" instrument in support of Ukraine.

The EU is expected to borrow funds from the capital markets and provide Ukraine with preferential loans this year with a maximum amount of up to 18 billion euros. Brussels has committed to cover the interest on the loans by granting a so-called "interest subsidy". For this purpose, the Member States will make additional contributions to the EU budget. Bulgaria's contribution will be up to 13.8 million EUR for the period 2024-2027, or an average of 3.07 million EUR per year.
