Sofia is given a D, or an average grade in the city urban environment ranking (the highest being A and the lowest F), and is in 20th position out of 42 European cities, ahead of Madrid, London, Rome and Vienna.
The “Thanks for sharing” report by the Clean Cities Campaign – a coalition of over 80 organizations - positions the cities according to four criteria: Shared bikes and e-scooters, shared electric cars, zero emission buses and EV charging infrastructure. This is the first such report for Europe. Zero emission buses and shared electric cars are the main reasons for Sofia’s good performance, but there is a big margin with the cities in top positions. Sofia is given 35.8% out of the maximum number of points, whereas the A-graded cities – over 80% of the criteria. With regard to shared bikes and e-scooters and EV charging infrastructure Sofia is close to the bottom of the list.
