“The acts which crush human dignity, torture and inhuman treatment must be criminalised with amendments to the Criminal Code, and for them there must be severe punishment,” says Ombudsman Diana Kovacheva.
As the abuse of an 18-year old girl in Stara Zagora came to light, many other cases of violence have emerged, and they demonstrated several things, Ombudsman Kovacheva said and added: “First that there are omissions in the Criminal Code, and second – that the institutions do not identify domestic violence as such, and are not moved by particularly vicious acts.”
Diana Kovacheva urged MPs to submit her proposals for discussion on Monday.
