The second group of Bulgarian firefighters, who provided support in dealing with the major fires in Greece, are returning home today, the press center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs announced. The group of 50 professional firefighters and 15 units of specialized machinery and equipment assisted the Greek firefighters under the EU Civil Protection Mechanism.

A total of 70 Bulgarian firefighters were sent to Greece to assist in the efforts to put down the numerous fires in Bulgaria's southern neighbour.

On August 1, the first group of 20 Bulgarian firefighters returned to the country.

The first group left for Greece in early July and participated in firefighting efforts for two weeks, and the second group was sent on July 16.

Bulgarian firefighters helped fight the fire in the area of Thessaloniki, the Halkidiki peninsula and the island of Corfu.
