On Bulgaria’s Independence Day, we return to a popular and beloved folklore song that can be heard on nearly every Bulgarian holiday related to historical events. This is the famous "Izlel ye Delyo Haydutin", which in 1977 was included in the Golden Record of the American space probes "Voyager", as a musical message from Earth to deep space. The song for the record was performed by great Bulgarian singer Valya Balkanska.

Today, however, we will hear the song performed by another great folklore singer from the Rhodopes - Nadezhda Hvoineva. Actually, the fact that the first professional recording of "Izlel ye Delyu Haydutin" was realized by her in the studio of the Bulgarian National Radio, is not widely known. The song itself was discovered by folklorists in the region of Zlatograd (southern Bulgaria) back in the 1930s and during the 1950s and 1960s numerous versions of it were also described in the regions of Ardino and Smolyan.

Nadezhda Hvoineva was born in 1936. She started performing music professionally in 1956. The singer recorded hundreds of songs from the Rhodope region for the funds of BNR, BNT and the former state recording company "Balkanton". She sang in the most prestigious concert halls of Europe, Asia, America and Africa. The renowned Bulgarian singer passed away in 2000.
