Energy industry workers and miners from coal-fired power plants, gas-fired power plants and coal mines across the country are expected to join the protest of the workers of Maritsa East today. The protesters have to decide whether to continue to block Trakia motorway and the Pass of the Republic near Gurkovo. They have prepared a common position with several demands, which will be sent to the National Assembly, the Presidency, the Council of Ministers and the European Commission. The main demand for the withdrawal of the Territorial Just Transition Plans from the European institutions remains. The aim is to preserve the future and independence of the Bulgarian energy sector, not just the jobs of energy workers and miners, the protesters say.
The nationwide protest is scheduled for the day when the National Assembly is expected to discuss a draft resolution for a vote of no confidence in the government for its policy in the energy sector.
