Alpine skier Anina Zurbriggen will ski for Bulgaria from this season, the Bulgarian Ski Federation has announced. Swiss-born Zurbriggen, whose mother is Bulgarian, took first place in the slalom at the national championships in Bansko in April. In a video message in Bulgarian, the 20-year-old athlete expressed her hope of competing in World Cup races soon.

"The Bulgarian federation is working well and there is a serious interest in skiers of Bulgarian origin and mixed marriages living outside the country who would like to be registered and ski for Bulgaria. These would be athletes living in Europe, the USA and Canada," said Georgi Bobev, vice-president of the Bulgarian Ski Federation.

Since last season, Italian naturalised citizen Luisa Bertani has been skiing for Bulgaria in the Audi FIS Alpine Ski World Cup.
