18-year-old swimmer Petar Mitsin has grabbed the "Sports Icarus" prize of the Bulgarian Sport Foundation for 2023.
This year he set a world junior 400m freestyle record, winning three European junior titles (200m, 400m and 800m freestyle) as well as the European gold in the 400m freestyle for swimmers under 23. At the World Junior Swimming Championships, Mitsin became champion in the 400m freestyle and grabbed silver in the 800m freestyle and 200m butterfly events.
Mitsin also has two Olympic quotas for the Paris 2024 Games in the 400m and 800m freestyle.
