Defence Minister Todor Tagarev and Chief of Defence Staff Admiral Emil Eftimov have congratulated the Bulgarian military on the upcoming Christmas and New Year holidays from the NATO and EU missions in Bosnia and Herzegovina - ALTHEA, Kosovo - KFOR and Iraq.

In the traditional videoconference, Tagarev stressed that the ministry's budget had been increased by more than 400 million euro this year. The money is used for new projects, modernisation contracts, salary increases, additional financial incentives, rewards and increased travel allowances. A further €400 million increase in defence spending is planned for 2024, Tagarev said.

He noted that participation in new foreign operations is also being discussed because "unfortunately, the security situation in the world is becoming more complicated".
