The average contributory service and retirement age pension is higher – EUR 348 for women and EUR 464 for men. The highest pensions are in Sofia – an average of EUR 475, and the lowest in Kurdzhali – EUR 302 a month.
The number of pensioners in the country this month is almost 2,041,000 out of a population of 6,447,710 (according to National Statistical Institute data as of 31 December, 2022). Male pensioners are significantly fewer in number – 826,000, as against 1,215,000 women.
