Artificial intelligence, sglobka and time shelter are the words of 2023

Artificial intelligence with 45%, sglobka* with 37 % and time shelter with 35% of the votes are the key words and expressions for 2023 in Bulgaria. This is according to the results of the traditional "Words of the Year" survey of the literacy platform "How do you spell?", which is the most popular online spelling guide. 


The survey was conducted from January 15 to 20. In it, each participant could indicate up to three words or expressions that they consider the most significant of the year. The next most voted words were war (22%), Schengen (17%), dismantling (14%) and rotation (13%).

Among the 20 most frequently written words in over 10.6 million publications on the Internet are: Bulgaria, Russia, Ukraine, Europe, USA, child, help, war, politics, etc. The word "child" and its usage increased in absolute value from 2022, while almost all others decreased.

For the first time, there is also a ranking for the most mentioned personalities in the media. GERB leader Boyko Borisov is the first, followed by Russian President Vladimir Putin, Bulgarian President Rumen Radev, Prime Minister Nikolay Denkov, former head prosecutor Ivan Geshev and the co-chairman of "We Continue the Change" Kiril Petkov.


* "sglobka" - a word literally meaning "an assembly, a random collection of things, used to refer to the current coalition forming the Bulgarian government
