Bulgaria’s Deputy Premier and Minister of Foreign Affairs Mariya Gabriel awarded the staff at the Bulgarian Embassy in Egypt for their efforts in the evacuation of Bulgarian citizens from the Gaza Strip. Mariya Gabriel met with representatives of the Bulgarian community at the Bulgarian Embassy in Cairo. The meeting was also attended by Bulgarian Ambassador to Egypt Deyan Katrachev and the five ministers who are part of the Bulgarian delegation. According to the Bulgarian Embassy in Egypt, some 150-200 Bulgarian nationals live in that country.

During her official visit to Egypt Mariya Gabriel met with Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shoukry. The first meeting of the Joint Cooperation Commission between the two countries also took place.

The focus of the visit was on securing gas supplies from Egypt and the signing of a cooperation agreement in the field of natural gas. ''We have already seen what is happening in this area, especially in the last two years following the Russian aggression in Ukraine. Energy security is of particular importance for Bulgaria'', said Mariya Gabriel.
