On the occasion of the 146th anniversary of the Liberation of Bulgaria, the Bulgarian Red Cross is organizing today a commemoration ceremony in front of the Doctor's Monument in central Sofia.

"The ceremony is a humble act of gratitude and appreciation for the feat and the memory of the doctors, pharmacists, nurses, Samaritans and paramedics who died for our Liberation," the Bulgarian Red Cross explains in a press release. Vice President Iliana Iotova will also take part in it.

The Doctor's Monument was built in the period 1882–1884 in memory of all doctors and medical workers who died in the Russo-Turkish War of Liberation.
