Karlos Nassar won a gold medal at this year's Weightlifting World Cup tournament in Phuket, Thailand. The Bulgarian became the champion with a total of 396 kg from the snatch and the clean and jerk events in the category of up to 89 kilograms for men.

In the snatch event, the 19-year-old Nassar recorded three successful attempts - 170, 176 and 181, as the last of which was also a world record in the movement. Immediately afterwards, however, Colombian Yeison Lopez lifted 182 to set the new world record.

In the clean and jerk, Nassar handled 215 kilograms without any problems, which not only secured the gold medal in the tournament, but was also equal to the world record of China’s Li Dayin.
