According to the timetable approved by the caretaker cabinet, the National Children's Hospital will be ready in May 2028 - nine months earlier than originally planned, Caretaker Finance Minister Lyudmila Petkova said.

BGN 100 million have been allocated from the state budget for activities related to the construction of the hospital.

With the help of the European Investment Bank, the necessary documents for the hospital's operation and equipment will be prepared. In the meantime, the public tender for its design will be announced at the beginning of September this year and construction will start next year.

On concerns that children's wards would have to be closed to provide enough paediatricians and nurses for the future hospital, the director of the Health Investment Company for its construction, Vlatko Gligorov, said, "The idea is not to close them, but to transform them and increase тхе capacity and accessibility." He added that talks have already been held with the education ministry to allow more doctors to specialise in paediatrics.
