CEC announces the distribution of Bulgarian seats in the European Parliament

The Central Election Commission has announced the distribution of seats for Bulgarian parties and coalitions which ran in the European Parliament elections on June 9. Bulgaria will have 17 MEPs. GERB-SDS won 5 seats, the Movement for Rights and Freedoms (DPS) – 3 seats, We Continue the Change - Democratic Bulgaria (PP-DB) – 3 seats, Vazrazhdane – 3 seats, the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP for Bulgaria) – 2 seats, and There Is Such a People – 1 seat.

Former National Assembly Speaker Rosen Zhelyazkov who led the GERB-SDS list gave up his seat. Dzhevdet Chakarov and Iskra Mihaylova from DPS also gave up their seats. The names of the new MEPs are as follows:

  • GERB-SDS: Andrey Kovatchev, Andrey Novakov, Emil Radev, Eva Maydell and Iliya Lazarov - EPP;
  • ·PP-DB: Nikola Minchev, Radan Kanev and Hristo Petrov. Radan Kanev and Hristo Petrov entered the European Parliament with preferences, moving from fifth and sixth to second and third, respectively, displacing Stefan Tafrov and Daniel Lorer- Renew Europe;
  • ·  Vazrazhdane: Stanislav Stoyanov, Petar Volgin and Rada Laikova – they have not decided which group to join in the European Parliament;
  • ·  DPS: Ilhan Kyuchyuk, Taner Kabilov and Elena Yoncheva -  Renew Europe;
  • ·  BSP: Kristian Vigenin and Tsvetelina Penkova, Tsvetelina Penkova displaced the second on the list, Rumen Gechev, through a preferential vote- The Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats;
  • ·  ITN: Ivaylo Valchev – he has not announced which political family he will join in the European Parliament.
