President Radev: Society expects politicians to stand for national interests

The political crisis can only be overcome by the return of principles to politics. Parties should clearly understand that their credibility is the key to their success, President Rumen Radev told journalists on the occasion of the upcoming elections.

According to the president, credibility comes from being honest with citizens. Repeated oaths and promises during an election campaign and their immediate violation after the elections destroy this trust. Therefore, it is very important that the parties themselves support the Central Election Commission and the government in their efforts to organise truly fair elections, the Head of State stressed.

Referring to the so-called "gentlemen's agreement" being discussed by political forces after the elections, Radev said that any agreement should be based on the expectations of society. The President stressed that Bulgarian society expects politicians to defend the country's national interests. This should be the basis of any government policy. Finally, the fight against corruption at the top of politics should begin. The parties should state in this campaign how they will lead this fight, the President added.

President Rumen Radev visited an exhibition of products and services from leading Chinese companies, leaders in technology, innovation, digitalisation, banking, logistics, transport and energy, BTA reported.
