The average gross annual salary in Bulgaria in 2023 is 24,485 BGN (EUR 12,519) which is an increase of 15.3% compared to 2022, according to data from the National Statistical Institute. The highest wages are earned by those working in "Creation and distribution of information and creative products; telecommunications" - 59,598 BGN (EUR 30,471.98). The lowest salaries are in the hospitality and restaurant industry - 14,605 BGN (EUR 7,467.42) and in "Agriculture, forestry and fishing" - 17,604 BGN (EUR 9,000.78).
According to the National Classification of Occupations and Duties, the largest share of employees is in the "Specialists" category - 20.1%, or 447.900 people, while the smallest share is in "Skilled agriculture, forestry and fishery workers" - 0.5%, or 10.700 people.
Approximately half of all employees in the country work in the districts of Sofia (capital), Plovdiv and Varna.
