Perperikon - the ancient Thracian city near Kardzhali, made it to the top 10 of the world's must-see sites, according to a ranking by the Guardian newspaper. The ranking, published by the English newspaper, highlights ancient sites in Europe that have become favourites among readers. Perperikon, ranked fourth, is described as “a sacred place for gods and humans even before written history, founded by Thracians in the fifth millennium BC, and later hosted Romans, Goths and Bulgarians”.
