The metapneumovirus is not new and does not lead to severe illnesses. There is already a decrease in morbidity in China and there are no deaths there, said Bulgaria's chief state sanitary inspector, Assoc. Prof. Angel Kunchev, to bTV.

"I understand the sensitivity of society to the combination "China-virus", but it is a bit unfair to the Chinese, because if you look at, for example, the three strains that we expect to cause the flu epidemic this year, you will see that there are Thai, Australian, and Austrian strains so not everything happens in China, no matter how big it is," explained Assoc. Prof. Kunchev.

"The flu has started, there are already 11% positive samples, so we are at the beginning of a flu epidemic. But a full working week must pass to be accurate," specified Kutchev. According to him, there is a slight delay, but the peak will be in early February.
