Two griffon vultures, which hatched last year at the Stara Zagora Zoo, will be released into the wild today, said the Wildlife Rescue Center-Green Balkans. The birds will be released near the village of Rakitna, the municipality of Simitli.
The first vulture chick in the zoo's history hatched in March last year, and two months later, the second one appeared. Their parents are the griffon vultures Sanie and Belcho. After their offspring grew enough, they were moved to an adaptation aviary in the Blue Stones Nature Park. A fundraising campaign was launched to purchase satellite transmitters to track them.
The Stara Zagora Zoo is expecting a new generation of griffon vultures in April.
