One of the undisputed Broadway hits of the last decade - "Matilda" by Tim Minchin and Dennis Kelly, based on the famous children's novel of the same name by Roald Dahl, will be staged for the first time in Bulgaria on the stage of the Sofia Opera and Ballet House.
After triumphing throughout North America, Australia and New Zealand, Ireland and Israel, the Philippines, South Korea, Singapore, China, Japan, South Africa, Spain and Argentina and after the success of the 2022 film version, "Matilda" comes to the National Opera and Ballet of Bulgaria with a premiere on March 27.
Unlike the Broadway production, which involves as many as four actresses playing Matilda, in Sofia the role will be presented by Nikol Veselinova and Marta Vateva. The performance features more than 30 students from the Children's Vocal and Theatre Ensemble "Thalasamche" led by Dimitar Kostantsaliev. "It is important that one never loses faith and the light within themselves and moves forward," director Yulia Krasteva says. According to her, the musical brings the message that when we have gone through one ordeal we have already gathered strength to face the next one.

The production is entirely Bulgarian - with original choreography, scenography and digital multimedia.
