For the first time, the Day of the Bulgarian Canning Industry will be marked on April 3. The solemn event will take place in the University of Food Technologies in Plovdiv. A round table on the topic "The Canning Industry in Bulgaria - Present and Future" will also be held.

The beginning of the first Bulgarian canning factory was laid on April 3, 1899. For two years before that, young entrepreneur Pantelei Genov had studied the craft of canned food production as a worker in factories in Belgium and France. Initially, the venture encountered a number of difficulties - consumer distrust, shortage of raw materials, etc., but Genov did not give up.

Success was not long in coming and after World War I, his high-quality vegetable and fruit canned goods became popular not only on the Bulgarian but also on the foreign market. Over the decades, a prosperous industry was built, which also became a symbol of socialist Bulgaria. It continues to develop today as a synonym for established quality, including for the markets of Europe, the USA, Japan, etc., the university points out.
