Travelers planning a spring escape might want to consider Sofia, which has been named the top European capital for a road trip getaway this season, according to newsweek.ro, citing the website DiscoverCars.com

The ranking evaluates cities based on hotel and car rental costs, as well as proximity to major tourist attractions, giving the Bulgarian capital the highest overall score of 170.

According to the report, Sofia ranked third in terms of hotel affordability for the period between May 3 and 7, with average prices around EUR 260 per stay. The city also offers competitive car rental prices, averaging EUR 41 for four days, which is the ninth-lowest in the survey.

The platform highlights that the city caters to both urban explorers and those seeking outdoor tranquility. For travellers in search of nature, Vitosha Mountain offers a peaceful retreat not far from the city center, the platform said.
