When Bulgaria adopts the euro, people will be able to withdraw money from ATMs only in the new currency, according to the website of the Bulgarian National Bank.

The so-called dual circulation period will last for the first month after the introduction of the European currency. During this time, people will still be able to pay with the current banknotes in stores or make banking transactions at the counter, but change will always be given in euros.

Bank transfers that are not made at a counter will be conducted only in euros. However, if we need, for example, taxes or fees, we will be able to do so in leva, but only in cash.

From the date the euro's introduction, the Bulgarian National Bank will exchange lev banknotes and coins into euros free of charge and with no time limit at the official exchange rate of 1.95583 leva per 1 euro.
