The 20th International Conference of the Bulgarian Association of Surgeons, Gastroenterologists and Oncologists (BASGO) brought together leading specialists in surgical oncology and gastroenterology in Sofia.

The forum was also attended by French surgeon Safi Dokmak, a leading specialist in liver and pancreatic surgery and liver transplantation. Speaking to BTA, Dokmak stressed that surgery in Bulgaria was at an extremely high level, especially in the field of pancreatic surgery.

Japanese surgeon Goro Honda, who was visiting Bulgaria for the first time, was also a guest at the conference. He told BTA that he was very impressed by the training centre he had the opportunity to visit at the Plovdiv Medical University. "Although the equipment was imported from the United States, it is perfectly suited for training surgeons in your country."

The event began on May 8 and continues today, May 10, at the National Palace of Culture.
