For a fourth day in a row, the Bulgarian capital remains without surface public transport, as its workers do not get the requested increase in their salaries. Meanwhile, employees, including from “Metropolitan” EAD, have begun collecting signatures for the initiation of indefinite strike actions, the transport unions at the Confederation of Independent Trade Unions in Bulgaria and the Podkrepa Trade Union told BTA.
“We are currently in a situation that is worse than a strike, because this is not a protest, but civil disobedience and all ground public transport is blocked,” the capital’s mayor Vasil Terziev commented. He added that an invitation to a meeting with the unions on Monday has been sent. “My condition is that public transport is restored.” According to the mayor, the trade unions are only making demands, while what he presented is a model with a clear calculations.
Vasil Terziev announced that he would ensure that citizens with public transport cards are compensated for the inconvenience, but is still waiting for a proposal from the Center for Urban Mobility.
